Thank you for your question about these snipes. You are using the 1-second lead time. We buffer all snipes by the average delay we experience with eBay at the time, which in this case was 1.6 seconds. But the snipe took longer to execute.
I looked at your bid history. For you, I'd suggest no earlier than 3 to 5 seconds and no later than 5 seconds across the board. This is because most of the items you bid on are popular and you encounter a lot of tie situations. In those cases you lose because your bid came in after theirs. It has to do with the minimum bid increment.
If you use 3, your bid comes in earlier, but still late enough so someone can't react to your snipe. But if it's a higher priced item with a lot of bids, you should use no less than 5.
We're working on a feature that lets you increase the lead time automatically if there is high competition on higher-priced items.
