Your best bet for affiliate income -- eBay pays up to 50%! --- is a search engine. I was planning on leveraging my API to do exactly that, on a separate site. I just put the API docs on Github a few days ago. https://github.com/bidslammer/bidslammer-api-examples . Cool. It's a nice little site. The only expenses to run it are a $100 ISP bill and PayPal/Stripe fees. Operating the site requires about 1% of my waking hours (a few inquiries a week).
That said, I don't do any marketing, I'd rather invent stuff. I see your education favors the former. I'm a MSEE from Texas A&M that left his career behind to make applications and use skills to help people.
