I like the older system better for a couple of reasons. It allows me to take a break from bidding without having to pay a continuous fee. And it just suits my bidding style better.

Huh? The new BidPoints system is unchanged in that respect (Pay Per Use). It's more affordable for the cheaper items (25 cents minimum instead of $2.00).
No, you will not be charged as you did not have a recurring subscription -- you paid manually.
