I had bid $777 and my snipe didn't go through and I lost the auction. It sold for $713. I am very upset about this! Should I be worried about my next snipe???

Yes, it was just a reboot (human intervention).
In regards to the lead time, I suggest 5 seconds. Your items are pricey and you have a lot of tie situations. In the case of ties, you want your snipe to come in first.
So, 5 is your friend. Let me know if I can clarify further.
