How is the new 2 minute extension rule going to affect our snipes. Will the snipe keep adding till you reach our limit?
Thanks

Hello Bob,

Thanks for the question about the 2-minute extension rule. Right now it’s just being tested in the trading card category, so I don’t think it’ll affect you in the short term.

Thinking it through:

1. Extending the snipe repeatedly could work, but it would need some guardrails to avoid driving the price too high.

2. We’d need a rule—like a fixed dollar amount or percentage to increase by if the auction extends. That brings us back to defining your max bid up front.

We can build whatever logic makes sense, so I think the real question is: What would be beneficial to you as a sniper?

Thank you for the response.
For me, extending the snipe repeatedly would work with my maximum bid up front as the ceiling. The percentage raised would be whatever is determined by the auction.
Regardless of how all this works out I will continue to snipe, it is just too convenient. Thanks.

Technically, that’s already how it works. Placing a max bid has the same effect as placing incremental bids, since eBay only increases your bid by the minimum amount needed to win.

For example, if you enter a $1,000 max bid on a $100 item, you’ll only pay $101—just one increment above the current price.

Yes I understand that- but if do the $101 increment and then within the 2 minute delay someone bids $102, will my snipe still go up to $103? and so on and so on, until my $1000 max bid is reached?
Thanks for being so responsive.

Correct. The final cost is calculated by taking the second-highest bid and adding one increment. eBay calls it "automatic" or "proxy" bidding:

Here's own link that explains how the two work together:

On a related topic, we're releasing a new feature soon that will send an alert to your phone, and you can reply to it to increase the bid.
