I find it hard to believe that the type of password was the cause.

eBay scores passwords. If you are bidding from your computer, they are more lenient. If you are bidding through an outside computer, like one of ours, it can result in a random security step or “Captcha” box on login through which snipes cannot penetrate.

You will likely win your other auctions, but there is always the above risk, until you improve the password.
