Bid Limit Raise Request

Hi, I just received an error message that says: "Limit of 25 snipes per second has been reached. Please contact support to raise limit." So I am reaching out to get my limit raised. Thanks

Hello Daniel,

Thank you for your question about raising the limit.

I would like to ask, is this limit only on Sunday evening? A lot of sellers use listing software such that the ending times are all within seconds of each other.

The reason I ask is because that is a different kind of limit.

Let me know and we can take next steps.

Yes this is in regards to a seller whose listings all end at the same time on Sunday night

Glad to help. Do you have an estimate on what you need?

If you’re comfortable sharing the seller’s name, I can monitor activity Sunday night to get a better sense of the limit required.

One additional thought, just as a suggestion: in some cases, asking the seller to skew the listing ending times so you can purchase more items can be effective. Making them aware of your interest is sometimes more helpful than simply increasing a limit.

The seller is: The Rare Company

I would estimate being able to do 60-80 bids would be enough. If the 25 limit was specific to a snipe time that would be more feasible like 25 bids 2 seconds before end, 25 bids 4 seconds before end, etc. But I can't put in any more bids regardless of time.

Also, I wouldn't feel right as a buyer requesting a seller change their setup to suit my needs.

I'm guessing their listings end at 7pm PST right on the nose.

I also meant to ask the max number of snipes per minute. There are actually two limits involved. They work together. One is the number of snipes per second. The other is snipes per minute.

For example, 80 snipes per second for a sustained period of time, say 5 minutes, would be 24,000 snipes.

So could you also estimate the max number per minute?

I just need to make sure other customers are not affected. I'll do my best to accommodate.

p.s. I do agree with your judgment on preferring not to ask the seller to make a change. In the situation I referred to, the buyer and seller knew each other pretty well.

I'm not sure I understand the formula. For this specific seller, I don't see myself ever needing to bid on more than 100 items ending at the same time, so is that 100 snipes then per minute if it's the same ending time? This is usually the only seller I bid on with Sunday auctions
dst*****ler
Yes, it would be 100 per minute.

In summary, original settings are:

SNIPES_MAX_PER_SECOND_PER_USER = 25
SNIPES_MAX_PER_MINUTE_PER_USER = 50

and I doubled them, so now they are:

SNIPES_MAX_PER_SECOND_PER_USER = 50
SNIPES_MAX_PER_MINUTE_PER_USER = 100

There is also a PER_HOUR limit. That is set to 350, but we can leave that as is, sounds like.

Let's see how these changes work for you, and if you need more, we can discuss. Please let me know Monday how it went.

Thanks, I appreciate it

Here is the update: 2 Sundays ago I was about 15 bids shy of bidding on everything I wanted before the limit message popped up. Yesterday I was able to bid on everything without the limit being a factor, so we are close but if you could bump it up another 20 that should have me covered. A different issue I ran into yesterday though is that there were several listings I should have won but it looks like my bids didn't go through. Listing #s 317656621348, 317656623795, 317656623043, 317656635860, and 317656588412

These are the same issue. Short answer: I suggest using lead times of 7 seconds during prime time (Sunday evening).

Explanation:
If you look carefully at log for those snipes, (by clicking the log icon) , the snipes required extra time to fire. This is due to it being prime time eBay.

7 seconds is still enough time to prevent a bidder from reacting. Also getting your bid in earlier will break a tie in your favor.

Truly, there is little to no benefit in going below 5, which is what I use. :) But we leave the option in, since people want to see it. I'd always go at least 4-5.

If we can go a Sunday with no misses like above, then I judge it will be safe to raise the limit a bit more. I hope this is ok, but it's better to be cautious.

Is there a way to make the default 5 or 7 seconds when I use the Slam It option? By default it is on 2 seconds so manually changing the time on each one is extra steps I'd like to avoid when bidding on so many things.
dst*****ler
Yes. I just set yours to 7 seconds.

Thank you

Hi, so I got the answer I wanted. Some snipes didn't execute, so I have the limit set as high as it can go right now.

I researched a better way to queue snipes. The method we have in place now has been in place a long time, and it's due for a rewrite.

I will work on it after the holiday and get back to you. Give me a week or so. Thanks for your patience and for helping us improve the service!

Sounds good, thanks for the update
